Inside 7 of Canada’s biggest challenges – and how we can meet them
Last week I was part of the Be Giant team covering the U.S.-Canada Summit in Toronto, including a one-on-one interview with MDA Space CEO Mike Greenley

I’ve had a busy and invigorating couple of weeks diving deep into Canada-U.S. relations, space sovereignty (a new favourite beat for me), the energy mix in Atlantic Canada, and the impact of advanced computing – let’s call it what it is, rather than simply ‘AI’ because it’s way more than that.
It culminated with me flying up to Toronto to join the Be Giant team, led by founder Alison Uncles and managing editor Mark Stevenson, to cover the US-Canada Summit co-hosted by RBC and the Eurasia Group.
It had quite a line-up, kicking off with US Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra offering surprisingly conciliatory words, followed by the newish (100 days) Canadian ambassador to the United States, Mark Wiseman, who said everyone in Washington has been super nice to him.
They were followed by federal cabinet ministers Evan Solomon (AI), Dominic LeBlanc (Canada-US Trade) and Mélanie Joly (Foreign Affairs), and Clerk of the Privy Council Michael Sabia.
We heard from Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and former US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer; and institutional investors Jenny Johnson, CEO of Franklin Templeton; Annesley Wallace, president and CEO of the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan; and Jo Taylor, president and CEO of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP).
The private sector was there too, including Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA Space, whom I interviewed before the summit while waiting for my plane at the Moncton airport.
Be Giant was a media sponsor of the event, and I helped create a strong package that hopefully gives you a bit more in-depth reporting than the initial coverage, which focused on Hoekstra’s change of tone.
Here are the links to the four stories produced.
